[Note] Attended Blair Academy, St. John's Military Academy at Manlius, New York, studied law in Washington, D.C. and established a law practice in Seattle, Washington. He was a life long member of the First Presbyterian Church in Seattle. He was possessed by a driving ambition to accumulate an estate equal to or exceeding that of some of his relatives. Some of this may have been due to the bitter feeling that arose after the death of Robert Blair, when the two sisters of his mother and their mother, Mary Dennis Blair, joined forces against his mother. He did not want his sisters to marry. It is said that he would pace the floor before his sisters, snap his finger and say, "William A. rules the roost." This did not endear him to his brother or his sister Helen. Alice would be reduced to tears because she disliked dissension. The Armstrong in his name honors his great grandmother, Sarah Armstrong.

At the time of his death, the Seattle newspapers published the statement that his estate had been inventoried at $270,443. His will provided that each son was to receive three-tenths of his estate and his daughter, one-tenth. This division reflected previous gifts to his daughter.

A newspaper clipping from Belvidere newspaper states that "William Green, a young lawyer, wooed and won Miss Prall and went to Seattle, Washington, and established a practice. Miss Prall's father, who is wealthy, desired to have the wedding at his home, but Mr. Green was so pressed with work that he could not come east. He planned, therefore, to have his fiancee join him and have the ceremony at his home. Miss Prall is accompanied by Mrs. Green and Miss Alice Green, mother and sister of Mr. Green. A large number of friends were at the railroad station to take farewell of Miss Prall. The wedding will take place soon after the arrival of Miss Prall."
