One of the incorporators of the Sussex State Bank in Newton, New Jersey, along with Sarah Armstrong's uncle John. It was chartered as a State Bank 31 JAN 1818, became a National Bank on 9 MAR 1865, and was still in operation in 1911.

Daniel Stuart was the first president of this bank. After he died, Ephraim Green, Jr. was elected on 28 JAN 1822 to succeed him and in turn served until his own death. David Ryerson succeeded Ephraim Green, Jr. as president of the bank.
