About 1740, Nathan came to America as did many others suffering from crop failures and extremem poverty in Scotland and Ireland. Nathan plied his trade as a weaver for a few years, and then came to northwestern new jersey. About 1745, at the farm home of Samuel Green, he met a younger sister of Green's wife, Hannah, and courted her. When she came to America she was called "Uphamy Wryght", but later on used the proper spelling "Euphemia". Nathan and Euphemia were married and went to housekeeping in a log house that Nathan had built. In 1748, Nathan bought from Colonel Jonathin Hampton six hundred acres of land and began clearing the land and built a log house on the land. In the third week of May 1748, he moved into this house with his family. Here he lived out the remainder of his days, clearing land and farming.

Died of natural smallpox contracted while delivering supplies to Washington's Army in Morristown.
